AU Optronics, the world's third largest maker of LCD screens, has announced a shortage of certain components held back its LCD shipments and revenue during the month of November.

The company cited a lack of cold cathode fluorescent tube (CCFL) backlights used with LCD screens in monitors and LCD-TVs as one factor that limited its monthly revenue figure, which broke a record high anyway.

The shortage indicates brisk demand for larger size LCD screens, and could be a sign the LCD TV market is heating up.

The company said its shipments of large size screens reached 3.17 million panels in November, up 2.3 per cent over its previous record set in October.

It reported its monthly revenue in November hit a historical high $NT24.2 billion ($US724 million), up 82 per cent over the same month last year and better than its previous record set in October of $NT24 billion
