Riverbed signs mcr, seeks more resellers

WAN acceleration hardware vendor, Riverbed has signed three major resellers and is in negotiations with four more, according to ANZ regional director, Steve Dixon.
The US-based company produces compression technologies and application accelerators that remove latency across wide area networks.
Riverbed set up its local office in September and had been looking to sign resellers to add to its clientele of ZettaServe and Lateral Minds.
Dixon said that the Australian market is positioned excellently for this technology as it improves performance for the vast distances that networks have to bridge.
"Everyday we are receiving interest from resellers who want to go straight to trials," said Dixon. "To put it bluntly, it's like shooting fish in a barrel."
The company had secured the services of Sydney IT service provider, mcr Computer Resources in October, but was still looking to add another four resellers, Dixon said.
"We're looking for resellers who service a vertical market very well," he said. "We don't want to flood the market so we'll probably sign no more than ten."
Riverbed selected mcr as its Sydney reseller because of its motivated sales people and its commitment to supplying enterprise with secure IT services, Dixon said. He added that mcr was also trialing two more hardware systems and had secured $300,000 worth of business already.
mcr sales manager, Martyn Bartlett said Riverbed's range of products were complimentary to mcr's portfolio of network infrastructure and managed servers.
"We've had a fantastic response from SMEs and enterprise customers and are expecting a very solid income stream in both the short and medium term," Bartlett said.
With three regional partners established and a few more in negotiation, Riverbed is now looking for a couple of national resellers.
