Victorian distributor Tops up Samsung channel

Topstar Computers International has bolstered its vendor stable with a new state-based distribution deal with Samsung.
The new partnership will see the Victorian-based integrator and systems builder offer Samsung monitors and printers to its network of regional PC resellers and Melbourne Metro consultants.
The company has previously sub-distributed for vendors including Gigabyte, Seagate and Kingston. But the direct relationship with a major brand like Samsung was particularly significant, general manager, Nick Bloom, said.
"Samsung supports our existing systems business and helps us work in newer areas such as government tendering," he said. "As it is a direct agreement we can also compete on price and support."
With the deal secured, Topstar had appointed a dedicated product manager and was currently developing new bundle deals to help the vendor push deeper into regional Australia, Bloom said.
"The undertaking with Samsung is to service the country market rather than bulk-distribute," he said. "It is an area we're keen to help them explore."
The news follows Topstar's recent acquisition of reseller, ComNet Technologies, through which it picked up new staff and a thousand-strong customer base, Bloom said.
"Some of those accounts are inactive but we think we can win them a lot of them over and get good growth," he said.
The company had also formed a new direct relationship with Canon for a selection of printers, cameras and scanners, Bloom said.
"The Samsung and Canon deals will allow us to be more competitive against regional players such as Leading Edge and Omega," he said.
