Altech dials in to IP telecoms

Hardware distributor, Altech Computers, has been tapped on the shoulder to distribute for Canada's Aastra Telecom.
Altech telephony product manager, Dean Bolger, said it would be taking on a range of Aastra products, with a particular emphasis on open standard Internet Protocol (IP)-based devices. Among the first products available will be the Aastra 480i, 9133i and 9112i phones.
"We see IP-based telephony as a high growth area," he said. "There are good opportunities for resellers and it offers the opportunity to cross sell as well."
Bolger said the products were aimed at the SME market. But he didn't discount the ability for them to be used in larger enterprise environments, should a reseller require it.
"Once you start playing around with this, you realise it's not just handsets but also IP PBXs, UPS and QoS too," he said.
According to Bolger, Altech had known about Aastra's products for a while and, without a comparable product range on its books, had approached the vendor for distribution.
The company joins Victoria-based Alloy Computer Products as a distributor of Aastra products.
