Cisco streamlines recertification exams

Recertifying for some Cisco Certified Internetwork Professionals (CCIPs) has been simplified to a single exam.
From March 10, Cisco Systems will begin offering the combined BGP+MPLS 642-691 exam, which allows Cisco Certified Internetwork Professionals (CCIPs) to re-certify through a single exam.
The CCIP professional certification, which sits above Cisco’s Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and Cisco Qualified Specialist certifications, is targeted at individuals working in service provider organisations with competencies in infrastructure IP networking solutions.
The BGP+MPLS exam is designed to test skills and knowledge pertaining to two Cisco courses: Configuring Border Gateway Control (BGP) on Cisco routers and Implementing Cisco Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS).
The new CCIP recertification exam will also serve as a two-in-one exam for those earning the CCIP qualification for the first time.
CCIP professionals are required to re-certify every three years. Cisco Systems US senior manager of core technologies, Internet learning solutions group Don Field said it is not necessary for candidates to take any training courses prior to the BGP+MPLS exam.
“Training courses aren’t required for any Cisco certification or re-certification exams,” he said.
The exam will be available in Australia via Cisco’s two testing centre delivery partners Thomson Prometric and Pearson VUE, Field said.
Cisco also announced in February that it would streamline its re-certification procedure for its three IP Telephony specialist certifications by reducing the required exams to one.
Professionals holding either Cisco IP Telephony specialist certifications in design, operations or support can now renew these qualifications for two years, as well as their CCNA and /or Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) qualification for a further three years, by undertaking one technology exam.
