The European Software Institute (ESI) has opened a centre of software excellence in Melbourne.
ESI Centre Australia was developed together with Software Engineering Australia (SEA). It received funding support from the Victorian government.
The centre is one of six ESI centres worldwide that share technologies and resources.
The partnership is a significant step forward for the Australian software industry, CEO of SEA, Nathan Brumby, said.
“For the first time, Australian software companies have access to products and services that are of an international standard, have been fully tested and are directed at SMEs,” he said
The centre is expected to give local developers direct access to ESI’s specialists in software improvement, according to the Victorian minister for information and communication technology, Marsha Thomson.
The government is also providing grants to assist SMEs in developing Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) best practice in software development and business standards.
Other ESI centres are located in Spain, Mexico, China, Bulgaria and Brazil.
