Altiris extends life cycle with Wise acquisition

The trend of vendor consolidation in the Information Lifecycle Management sector has continued with the announcement that Altiris has acquired the privately-held Wise Solutions in a $US43 million stock and cash transaction.
While the US-based Wise has no physical presence in Australia, Altiris hopes the acquisition will help get its foot in the door with Wise’s Australian channel partners including Harris Technology.
Wise is an enterprise application management software vendor whose products are sold locally through Harris Technology, Sydney-based Noble Systems and Micropay.
Altiris’ Australian MD, Geoff Masters insisted that the purchase would mean only good news for partners and customers.
“We intend to continue to have a Wise product set,” he said.
Partners and end-users would see a streamlining of sales and service from Altiris and Wise as a result of the acquisition, as many were already using both vendors, Masters said.
Wise would also benefit from having a much stronger sales presence in Australia through Altiris, he said. Service calls for Wise would be migrated to Altiris’ Sydney-based call centre.
Masters also hoped Altiris would receive a sales boost through the Wise channel: “If I’m fortunate we will be able to sit down with Harris Technology and other [Wise] partners and they’ll see the advantage of taking a broader product set from us."
Altiris’ presence in Australia is largely research and development, with about 40 software developers based in Sydney.
It sells into Dell and HP as well as tier one resellers including Volante and BCA.
