Tax clampdown continues

The clampdown by the Federal Government on computer sales tax avoidance continues. Two weeks ago in Melbourne two men pleaded not guilty to two counts relating to sales tax avoidance believed to be worth $5 million each. A hearing date has been set down for August.

Meanwhile in Sydney last month the manager of a wholesale computer firm was fined $1000 for evading payment of sales tax. In this instance the man had sent the organisation's records overseas to hide information from a tax office audit. Tax officials detected the scheme after receiving information from alternate sources.
