Compaq cuts prices on deskpros

Compaq yesterday announced it has cut prices of its Deskpro line in the US by up to 25 per cent, effective immediately.
The company reduced prices on its 2000 line by up to 16 per cent. For example, the 5166X model with a 166MHz Pentium processor with MMX, a 2.1GB hard drive, 16MB of RAM, 256KB of cache memory and Windows 95 is now priced at $US849.
Prices of the 4000 line have been cut by up to 25 per cent. The 5200X with a 200MHz Pentium with MMX, a 3.2GB hard drive, 32MB of RAM, 512KB of cache memory and Windows 95 now sells for $US1179.
Compaq also cut prices of its 6000 line by up to 19 per cent. The 6233X with a 233MHz Pentium II processor, a 2.1GB hard drive, 32MB of RAM, 512KB of cache memory and Windows NT 4.0 is now priced at $US1759.
