Penman to head up Compaq Australia

Ian Penman has been named managing director for Compaq in Australia, following its acquisition of Digital.
In a statement issued last night, Penman said: "I am very proud to have been given the opportunity to take on this responsibility and help steer the new Compaq into this exciting new era for Australia."
Since Compaq announced its plans to acquire Digital in January, teams from both companies have been working together to ensure a smooth integration.
In a memo circulated to Digital employees and colleagues yesterday, Ron Bunker congratulated Penman on his appointment. Bunker said it was a "defining moment" in the industry and said he continues to be "extremely enthusiastic about the prospects for the new enterprise". Bunker will be leaving Digital after a "few weeks", the memo said.
Bunker took the helm Digital at a time when it required a strong leadership hand, guiding the company to its current success.
Penman established the Australian subsidiary of Compaq in 1985. He joined the company after 18 years at IBM.
