NetEasy range launched for retail

Taiwan-based network hardware manufacturer D-Link has released (see ARN, March 10, page 20) its new NetEasy range of low-end PC connectivity products and is looking to computer retailers as its best channel for a potential mass market.
D-Link has risen to challenge some of the bigger names in network manufacturing. Its share of the corporate market grew by 100 per cent in 1998 and, according to IDC figures, is now the number-one seller of network interface cards in Australia.
D-Link's ISO-accredited volume manufacturing has introduced convenience, affordability and reliabi-lity to the home networking industry which is driving up demand for the category and therefore increasing its viability as a retail product.
"We are going places, so grab a coat-tail and come along for the ride," said Andrew Mitchell, business development manager, D-Link Australia.
D-Link's NetEasy range, to be distributed exclusively in Australia by Tech Pacific, is claimed to help demystify a lot of the technical aspects behind buying and installing small networks. It attempts to introduce true plug-and-play connectivity in LANs.
"We want to make networking easy to purchase, install and maintain," Maurice Famularo, marketing and channel manager, D-Link. "NetEasy is the fastest and easiest way to hook up users on a network. All you have to do is plug in the cables and the network is ready to run."
Famularo said the NetEasy products are packaged for retail and would be supported by a national awareness campaign including print publication advertising. As more people shop for networking products at retail outlets, D-Link's goal is to have them both recognise and buy the NetEasy range.
Headlining the NetEasy range is a $177 (RRP) network starter kit comprising a hub, two adapter cards and the cables required to connect two PCs. The set-up is easily expandable when new PCs need to be connected.
Other products in the NetEasy range include a desktop adapter ISA bus, desktop adapter PCI bus, a PC card 16-bit bus, desktop Ethernet hub, desktop dual speed hub and a portable Ethernet hub.
