Harris looking at million-dollar month

If you thought viable Internet retailing is still a few years away in Australia, think again. Sydney-based retailer Harris Technology is expecting to complete a million-dollar month on the Internet at some stage in 1999, according to managing director Ron Harris.
Sales totalling $375,000 were obtained from the Web site in December last year, a figure which blew to over $475,000 in January, Harris revealed. Last week he said Internet sales would top $500,000 in February, despite it being the shortest month of the year.
"We love the Internet and I now have operators processing orders seven days a week," Harris said. "We get 18,000 to 20,000 page clicks per day and it is not just buyers. Lots of competitors and vendors come to check out our prices and what we are doing," he said. "Even if they don't buy, that is good. We are a part of e-commerce and awareness is the key to this business. They will know about it and spread the word."
Responding to survey results showing 40 per cent of resellers were yet to even consider using the Internet for business (ARN, February 24, page 1), Harris said those ignoring the potential of the Web are "absolutely crazy".
