Xerox forms Internet business group

Xerox said yesterday it has formed a business unit to emphasise its Web-based activities.

The Internet Business Group will develop new e-commerce capabilities, and will use the company's Web site to increase interactive customer communications, Rick Thoman, Xerox president, said in a statement yesterday.

The group will also be used to enhance communications among Xerox research centers around the world, he added.

New Xerox technology will be made available to partner companies through the unit. Technologies developed by the group could also be spun off into separate businesses that would seek outside capital investment, Christa Carone, a Xerox spokeswoman, said yesterday.
