• 09 March, 2005 09:48

HP’s new line-up of Business Notebooks boasts one of the most comprehensive portfolios of security options for increased business protection and reduced data loss and intrusion.

Sydney, Australia, 9 March, 2005 – HP today introduced its most extensive and secure line-up of Business Notebooks. The four different series of thin, lightweight Business Notebooks and Tablet PCs - the HP Compaq 8200, 6200, 6100 and 4200 series - feature an industry leading array of security options and incorporate the Intel® Centrino™ Mobile Technology based on the latest Mobile Intel® 915 Express Chipset. In addition to enhanced security, the notebooks are engineered to provide ease of use and reliability for mobile professionals at competitive prices.

HP is taking the lead in providing innovative security solutions for notebooks that span from physical safeguards like cable lock solutions to advanced features that protect data and control access. This ensures that only authenticated users can access confidential business data, thereby reducing risk of it being compromised or stolen. With these notebooks, customers can choose from a range of hardware and software features to tailor security levels to their business needs.

HP Australia’s market development manager for nc-series Commercial Notebooks, Laurie White said, “With security being topmost on the minds of businesses in Australia, HP aims to be the market forerunner with Business Notebooks that include an industry leading array of built-in security hardware and software features, helping our customers protect their devices, business critical data and networks.”

Janet Bradburn, development manager for nx-series Commercial Notebooks continued, “In addition to a robust suite of security features, our HP notebooks have a range of design features that make great business sense. This range shares the most critical accessories, including our docking solutions and travel battery, to ensure customers can easily and conveniently take advantage of the variety of form factors we have available. We offer all of these great customer benefits while maintaining our commitment to superior value for money.”

Improved Security – Keeps data safe
HP innovation and engineering protect customers’ investment in HP Business Notebooks with a range of security features. For example, the HP Mobile Data Protection System helps reduce the risk of data corruption by up to 50 per cent by protecting the hard drive from the shock and vibration experienced through regular, everyday use – unlike competing offerings that mainly protect against catastrophic events.

To secure system access and reduce help desk support calls, selected notebooks also now feature the recently announced Credential Manager for HP ProtectTools. Credential Manager provides users single sign-on capability and convenient storage of the many different passwords used to access Web sites, network resources and secure applications. Credential Manager enhances the HP ProtectTools security portfolio, which includes an array of configurable, hardware and software security features for selected notebooks such as an integrated or add-on Smart Card reader or an embedded security chip designed to the Trusted Computing Group standard.

Also supported on many of the latest HP Business Notebooks are new firmware security features that help protect a notebook from the moment it is turned on by using the optional, HP ProtectTools embedded security chip to authenticate the user before the operating system loads. This advanced firmware security complements other features, such as Smart Card pre-boot authentication(1) and DriveLock hard drive protection, to protect against unauthorised access to the notebook and user data stored on the hard drive – even in cases where the hard drive is removed and access is attempted using another PC.

For wireless security, the integrated wireless LAN solutions for HP Business Notebooks feature support for the latest security standards such as WiFi Protected Access Version 2 (WPA) which includes improved data protection with AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) encryption. They are also fully compliant with Cisco Compatible Extensions ensuring solid interoperability with Cisco wireless networking infrastructure products.

Reliable : Designed to protect against the hazards of life on the road
Manufactured to withstand the trials of business travel, the HP Business Notebook line-up now incorporates features such as magnesium alloy and reinforced composite materials to withstand the bumps and bruises of life on the road. Spill-resistant keyboards also help minimize the risk of damage to sensitive, critical internal components.

In-mold laminate – the result of a cutting-edge technique in mobile computing manufacturing – creates a scuff- and scratch-resistant notebook built for rigorous mobile user environments, while the HP Panel Protection System helps prevent the display from scuffing and scratching while shut.

Easy to use : Designed to work the way mobile professionals do
HP Business Notebooks and accessories are convenient and easy to use; featuring improved ergonomic features such as:
· Enhanced quick-connect docking for easier connection to the docking station and simple one-button release for quick disconnect;
· Adjustable, single-handed operational notebook stands allows for either right or left handed customers to easily position notebook display at eye level;
· Superior keyboards with comfort-dished keycaps, bright key legends and a touchpad scroll zone to provide improved comfort and ease of scanning through documents or Web sites;
· Ambient light sensor that adjusts the brightness of the display based on the environment to save battery life.

In addition, HP Business Notebooks help keep mobile professionals powered up for extended use with HP Fast Charge Technology, which allows users to quickly recharge and monitor notebook batteries while they work, as well as support for a convenient travel battery that provides up to four hours of additional battery life.

HP notebooks also come equipped with quick-launch buttons on selected models, allowing for one-touch access to many commonly used system features. Located in the ‘one-touch business zone’ are a wireless on/off button, presentation button and HP Information Center button.
