Filemaker's XML support

Filemaker has released Version 5 of its Filemaker Developer database development tool product, which includes Filemaker Development Tool and greater XML support. The product's claimed 17,000 users (including 2500 registered members) are supported by the Filemaker XML Central Web site (www.filemaker.com/xml) which aims to service all your Filemaker Developer and XML needs in relation to news and support. Distributed throughout Australia by Dataflow, the product carries an RRP of $870 ($650 for an upgrade).

Xerox, Microsoft joint venture

Microsoft and Xerox have announced a joint partnership in an e-commerce spin-off, ContentGuard, which will design software to protect digital documents, books, music, entertainment and other media. ContentGuard will have about 40 employees. Mike Miron, former president of the Xerox Internet business group, will leave Xerox to become co-chairman and CEO of the spin-off. Dick Brass, Microsoft's vice president for technology development, will serve as co-chairman while continuing to hold his job at Microsoft.

Insight launches application integration toolkitKnowledge management and portal software solutions company Insight has announced the launch of its Intellego Suite, which it describes as an application integration toolkit. Developed in Australia, this new technology can be utilised either as a complete solution or as a toolkit and is described by the vendor as being "an artificial intelligence-based classification, distribution and integration engine".

It automates meta-data classification - as XML or in other formats - as well as the distribution and storage of content from multiple applications, documents and formats.

Building ‘Blox

Web platform and e-business software development tool vendor AlphaBlox has announced that Agilent Technologies has deployed a Web-based portfolio tracking application built with its AlphaBlox Analysis Suite. Agilent's new AlphaBlox-based solution lets financial managers closely track Agilent's research and development project costs across Agilent's four business sectors. It also provides lab directors with the ability to identify opportunities to potentially cut costs through personalised access to financial information related to their research and development projects.
