Soft landing for high-end solutions

Enterprise business solutions provider Epicor has appointed Sydney-based Implementation Soft as its new alliance partner.

Founded in early 1998 by partners Harry McLaren and Ian Taylor, Implementation Soft targets solutions at high-end financial sector companies. In two years the company has grown from a staff of two to the stage where it is now employing in excess of 30, a trend which McLaren claims is set to continue. He forecasts a staff of 60 by year end.

The new deal signals a shift in focus for Implementation Soft which, up until now has been involved in product implementation rather than sales.

In response to the new vendor partner, McLaren revealed plans to build a new arm designed to focus on both the sales and implementation of Epicor products. He added that his people had already begun their full Epicor training.

"This will not generally involve cross training the company's existing implementers," McLaren said. "Rather, the plan is to build a separate Epicor practice."

Taylor singled out Epicor's customer relationship management product as providing Implementation Soft with a spearhead into the professional services market.

"Certain professional services are going to grow and change in the future. A lot of professional firms rely on the old-boy network and on strong relationship management of key individuals, but if they are intending to grow they need to ensure that that relationship spreads down to new levels. It's good having the business partners closely aligned with their customers at a senior level, but that relationship needs to tie in at all levels," Taylor explained.
