Origin scores $11M SAP deal

Origin Australia's SAP expertise has scored it a five-year, $11 million outsourcing deal with Pioneer International, one of the world's leading building material suppliers.

Origin will take over the management of a significant portion of Pioneer's Australian IT operations, in particular, Pioneer's NT platform based SAP R/3 system, five Compaq large enterprise servers and Tesys logistical software.

Pioneer is planning to roll out more SAP based business systems across Australia from May and Origin is set to take these on board, running them from their purpose-built data centre in Melbourne.

John Pritchard, Global CIO for Pioneer International, says Origin won the contract on the basis of its proven SAP experience and successful track record in SAP life cycle management.

"Another factor in choosing Origin was its global reach," Pritchard said. "Although at this stage the outsourcing deal only applies to our Australian operations, we wanted a partner that had global capabilities that could potentially manage Pioneer's operations in the US, Europe and Asia."

Pioneer is following a growing trend of outsourcing IT management in order to let the company focus on its core business.
