Sydney, Australia, 30 September, 2004 – Hewlett-Packard (HP) has unveiled Australia’s first all-in-one digital media entertainment centre, the HP Media Center PC (HP MCPC), designed to enable consumers to kick-back with a one-stop home entertainment device.

With the HP MCPC, consumers can watch, record and play TV programs as well as slot and store recorded TV programs on an optional, easy-to-use HP Personal Media Drive. Consumers can dock a digital camera and download photos, surf the Internet, watch DVDs, organise entire music collections, listen to FM radio and compile multimedia slideshows with the HP MCPC.

“The HP Media Center PC will transform the lounge room into a complete home digital entertainment network for the family. It is simple to use, helps you organise your entertainment efficiently and saves consumers money because they no longer need different devices to play or store music, movies and photos.”

“In 2003, we were first to market with the HP Pavilion Home Entertainment PC, bridging the gap between PCs and digital entertainment. We have now introduced cutting-edge features in the HP Media Center PC to allow consumers to be more productive and enjoy a simple and rewarding entertainment experience,” said Rebekah O’Flaherty, Vice President and General Manager, Imaging & Printing Group, HP South Pacific.

Innovative features available in the HP MCPC include:
*HP Personal Media Drive will provide HP MCPC users more space for their digital content such as home videos, digital photography and music. The 160-gigabyte drive allows consumers to store up to 2,600 hours of high-quality digital music recording, up to 180,000 digital photos, or up to 160 hours of standard-quality TV. For example, consumers can set their HP MCPC to record their favorite TV show and program the PC to save it directly to the HP Personal Media Drive.(1)(2)

* Instant wireless home network - The HP MCPC offers the fastest and latest Intel 915 chipset with a built-in 802.11 b/g wireless solution (WLAN). Acting as a wireless access point, consumers can now create an instant wireless network in their home with the PC. No extra hardware, cables, or external routers are needed to connect the HP MCPC to other wireless computers around the home as it comes with an integrated wireless software access point.

* Enhanced entertainment with the Intel 915P Express Chipset, Grantsdale. Featuring the latest Intel 915P Express Chipset on the Grantsdale motherboard to power the latest applications and emerging digital entertainment technology such as high definition video and audio. Consumers can now enjoy a high quality audio experience equal to that only of consumer electronic systems, greater bandwidth for multiple audio streams and greater processing capability.

* Delivering and storing digital images seamlessly
With the 9-in-1 card reader, the HP MCPC reads xD cards from Olympus, Fuji and Toshiba cameras providing a seamless digital photography experience across the entire HP product range including home PC, printer, scanner and digital cameras. The HP MCPC offers a convenient camera docking area on the top of its chassis, allowing users to quickly attach their HP digital camera and download videos and pictures to their hard drive without the need to attach and re-attach camera cables.
