CA-WORLD: Wang urges retailers to integrate online efforts

In his keynote address at CA-World 2000, the chairman and CEO of Computer Associates International, Charles B. Wang, has urged retailers to take a more integrated approach to doing business online.

Wang was addressing attendees at CA's annual conference, currently being held in New Orleans with an estimated 25,000 attendees.

"Being the first isn't enough any longer," Wang said. "You also have to do it right."

Wang advised businesses of the missed opportunities from not leveraging off the bricks-and-mortar side of business, and of failing to integrate it with the online side.

"We shouldn't assume that the dotcoms that are first always win," he said. "In fact, I believe that the most successful ebusiness etailing model will be a hybrid that seamlessly integrates internet initiatives with the bricks-and-mortar investment."

Doing this successfully, he said, provided these businesses with something which helped them differentiate themselves from the dotcoms.
