Linux retailer and support provider LinuxPlaza has snared a deal to become Australia's first certified Red Hat reseller.
Mark White, vice president and general manager for Red Hat Asia-Pacific, said the company chose LinuxPlaza because of its "unique business model and skill sets".
LinuxPlaza will support Red Hat's corporate customers and offer implementation solutions for Red Hat's Linux operating system.
In essence the certification announcement represents an expansion of the already healthy relationship between LinuxPlaza and Red Hat. After working together on several projects, LinuxPlaza engineers arranged to complete Red Hat's Certified Engineer Program enabling them to provide onsite and telephone support to corporate customers. Additional back-end support will also be available directly from Red Hat, the company reports.
As a certified reseller, LinuxPlaza will sell and support the entire Red Hat range, including the Standard, Deluxe, and Professional editions of the distributions, as well as the recently released Enterprise edition, optimised for Oracle 8I databases.
LinuxPlaza also plans to use Red Hat's website, which provides foreign vendors with a direct channel into the Linux community in Australia, to promote and sell the Red Hat's Certified Engineer Program (RHCE).
LinuxPlaza sales director Edward Lenta said that LinuxPlaza's certification by Red Hat will help boost support for Linux in corporate Australia and will assist Australian Linux users in finding support skills nationwide.
To this end LinuxPlaza has also launched an online support database. Companies or individuals that have skills in Linux or open-source software can register with LinuxPlaza and list these skills in the database, along with the geographic area they cover. The skills database is available through the LinuxPlaza site.http://www.linuxplaza.com.au
