Intel brings channel programs under e-umbrella

Intel has announced a global network that will coordinate its channel programs under one Web-based umbrella.

The Intel e-Business Network will link up the company's product dealers, Web integrators, ISPs, VARs and others to encourage online business development, partnering, certification and training, according to the US chip giant.

Businesses seeking to develop online operations will be able to access the network to choose from a wide variety of channel offerings, Tom Kilroy, general manager of Intel's reseller channel operation, said in a phone interview last Friday.

"It's rare when one channel can deliver an entire e-business solution," Kilroy said. "The Intel e-Business Network facilitates the teaming up of businesses across channels."

In mid-May, the company will unveil Intel Business Market Place, a Web portal that will enable Intel's 50,000 channel members to link up with each other.

"All channel members who have access to the Web site will be able to search for a partner that has a complementary business enterprise," Kilroy said. "We want our channel members to work together to provide their own e-business solutions." For example, the Intel Business Market Place can match up a VAR with an ISP or a Web integrator.

The network is an outgrowth of a company initiative begun in June of last year known as the Intel Service Provider Program, under which the chip maker began offering products and services to ISPs, ASPs and others.

Intel will also offer certification for members of the e-Business Network and for information technology professionals, Kilroy said. The training will cover applications, networking, security and servers. Courses are presently offered via Intel's Authorized Training Center.

In addition, Intel is providing training through its Channel Conference, a periodic event offered from March 27 to June 1 in 250 cities in 70 countries. The conference participants include Intel solution providers, product dealers, ISP program members, and others.

The e-Business Network will also include Intel's e-Business Solution Provider Program, announced in February. The program allows Web integrators to develop integration frameworks in Intel labs along with Intel engineers and with technical marketing support.
