NetStar Networks and LAN Systems have received a pat on the back, winning Cisco's 1999 Australia/New Zealand Partner of the Year and Distributor of the Year awards, respectively.
Nick Verykios, chief marketing officer of LAN Systems in Australia, said the company's overall success was based on both its reseller engagement model and its role as a Cisco distributor.
"Our investment in channel services has grown both our Cisco Gold and small-to-medium business markets," Verykios said. "Resellers in both these areas now form our fastest-growing and most loyal customer base."
Verykios said two years ago LAN Systems was working "in the shadow of internationally funded distributors", and had quietly built its business.
"Winning this award is a major coup for the Australian IT industry, and proves yet again that a good business model and local know-how is more than a match for the multinationals."
According to Liz Lawson, Cisco Australia's regional manager of national channels, LAN Systems was the highest over-achiever of all its distributors, measured against two-tier revenue targets for the year.
"LAN Systems successfully differentiated itself in the market by delivering emerging technologies while maintaining a strong focus on networking and communications," Lawson said.
