The increasing popularity of DVD has generated a lot of hype. Columbia Tristar Home Video is hoping to cut through the propaganda and expose some of the facts with the launch last month of its DVD dedicated Web site.

Proclaiming to transcend brand and company boundaries, the Web site includes information from Columbia as well as fellow DVD distributors and manufacturers.

`The Web site is an industry Web site,' said Michele Garra, Columbia's managing director.

The site will focus specifically on what is happening in the Australian DVD market, a movement Garra says is `rapidly gaining momentum'.

Additionally, news on the latest DVD releases, previews, best selling titles, answers to frequently asked questions and promotions will be included. Hardware available from various manufacturers will also be listed.

Eventually the Web site will become interactive, with Columbia planning DVD forums in which users, manufacturers and distributors will be able to share opinions. The site can be accessed by members only, though membership can be freely obtained on the first visit.
