ComOps Expands Into E-commerce With Unibis Acquisition

To keep up with the E-commerce race, NSW business management solutions vendor, ComOps, has acquired Melbourne e-commerce software developer, Unibis, for $4 million-plus.

ComOps will pay approximately $1.6 million in cash up front, with the balance to be paid over the next three years, largely linked to performance.

Besides providing a marketing base in Melbourne, the acquisition will also give ComOps UNIBIS's e_commerce offerings, including its e_Commerce Gateway, an Internet commerce exchange application that enables customers to automate and manage communication over the Internet.

According to Richard Bradley, ComOps' managing director, Unibis' e-commerce technology complements ComOps' business management and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) offerings.

"The acquisition of UNIBIS and its technology has allowed ComOps to leapfrog other major software companies, who are still developing their e_commerce applications, as we now offer a comprehensive range of net_based systems that can enhance clients' use of ComOps' products or connect the web to any other application," said Bradley.

ComOps has recently incorporated Unibis' e_commerce technology into its core products in its implementation for Crown Scientific, its first major e_commerce client.

ComOps' e_commerce strategy is to enable customers to manage large quantities of multi_line orders to the Internet, for example, letting self_service customers communicate directly with suppliers, browse product catalogues, check stock levels and place and track orders.

ComOps completed its $6 million Initial Public Offering late last year. Its customers include Coca_Cola Amatil, Pepsi_Cola 7Up Bottlers, Sanitarium Health Food, Toshiba and Tyrrell's Vineyards.

UNIBIS will retain its senior management structure following the acquisition. Besides E-commerce, its product offerings also include business intelligence and ERP software and services. The company has offices in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane and currently employs 30 people. Its customers include Metal Manufacturers Merchandising, Australia Post, Australian National Industries and CSIRO.
