Australian software developer Empower HR has reaped the rewards of its perseverance during the Asian financial crisis, securing a multimillion-dollar contract with Philippines company Systems Technology Institute (STI).
The deal will entail the implementation of a comprehensive human resources solution and automated payroll system over the next three months.
STI's software services division, STIsys, will also distribute Empower's products throughout the region, the combined deals worth more than $2 million over the next three years.
"STI was going to develop its own human resources software because it couldn't find anything on the market that it liked," said David Sherrah, Empower's manager, business development.
However, as members of EDS' Channels to Asia Pacific (CHAP) program, Empower was recommended by EDS to STI, which had the chance to examine the developer's previous work in the region for Pan Pacific Hotels and Resorts.
"The global alliance partnership gave STI the confidence to select Empower," Sherrah said.
On the local front, Empower continues to grow rapidly, due in part to a recent partnership deal with software vendor Seagate.
As a result of this growth and its international success, Empower plans to expand its staff by 15 and has just moved into new offices in Kent Town in Adelaide.
