Just when we thought the networking market was crowded enough, niche web-switching vendor ArrowPoint is close to finalising its Australian distribution arrangements.
Nick Verykios, LAN Systems' chief marketing officer, confirmed last night the distributor is negotiating terms with ArrowPoint, touted as one of the hot new intelligent switching companies.
"Any content provider is going to need this stuff," Verykios said of ArrowPoint's web switches, caching technology and network services.
One of ArrowPoint's three new Sydney-based staff is David Humphries, former account manager with Alcatel's internetworking division.
Humphries said ArrowPoint's entry into the local market will provide customers, particularly service providers, with a niche solution that complements existing networking vendor technologies.
Once the deal is completed, LAN Systems and ArrowPoint will begin building their reseller base, which already includes a number of as-yet-unnamed companies.
ArrowPoint is privately owned and is backed by $33.5 million in venture capital funding from North Bridge Venture Partners, Matrix partners, Accel Partners, Bowman Capital and Pequot Capital, the company reports.
