Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical
IntelliMouse Optical is the latest in Microsoft's trackball-free Mouse products that use digital optical tracking technology.
Sporting the silver detailing, signature-red taillight and glowing underside made popular by IntelliMouse Explorer, IntelliMouse Optical features a smaller design that is comfortable for both left and right-handed mouse users.
"With the introduction of Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical, the lefties' in Australia no longer have to feel left out' thanks to this five-button optical mouse," Melinda Dunn, product manager for the Microsoft home and retail group, said.
Microsoft claims the IntelliEye optical technology is the biggest innovation for the mouse in 30 years, and changed the way people use a mouse by removing the track ball, providing more control and accuracy and eliminating the need for mouse pads and cleaning. IntelliEye technology replaces the mouse ball with an optical sensor and digital signal processor (DSP).
The sensor captures snapshots of the work surface at a rate of 1500 images per second, and the DSP translates changes between the images into on-screen movements.
IntelliMouse Optical is scheduled to be launched into retail stores in April with an estimated retail price of $79.95. PC and Mac compatible.
Logitech's professional desktop
Logitech has released what it claims is the ultimate input option for the serious PC user. The Cordless Desktop Pro keyboard/mouse combination features easy Internet and multimedia access and control through dedicated buttons, a contoured keyboard with the increasingly popular split key layout, plus a Logitech Cordless MouseMan Wheel, which is the flagship product in the company's radio-based controlled mouse family.
In addition, the keyboard is designed with a detachable palm-rest that provides comfort during typing breaks, yet is easy to remove to save desk space.
Cordless MouseMan Wheel offers an innovative shape, sculpted to fit the right hand, soft-touch material enabling the user to better grip the mouse and a scroll wheel that also serves as a fourth mouse button.
The Cordless Desktop Pro includes Logitech's iTouch - a combination of dedicated buttons, innovative software, and a special Web site that combine to turn the keyboard into a true "net peripheral", allowing users to control the Internet and multimedia with one press of a button.
Priced at $249, the combination is now available from authorised Logitech dealers and distributors and includes a five-year warranty.
