Palm poses new demands for IT managers

Palm handhelds have been infiltrating corporate offices and networks for more than a year.

Now, as if more evidence were needed to prove that the devices have created more systems management demands, a number of mainline IT vendors are coming up with hooks and supports for the Palm.

Tivoli Systems recently announced it would offer Device Manager for Palm Computing which automatically discovers Palm devices connected to a network.

Palm Incorporated, maker of the PalmPilot, said it would soon start shipping its own HotSync Server. HotSync will be aimed at streamlining synchronisation between individual Palms and corporate e-mail servers, as well as with Palm applications from Oracle, PeopleSoft and SAP.
