Software application delivers premier audio/video quality to web cams; new multi-language portal provides point and click instant access to IM, data collaboration, voice and video

Polycom®, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLCM), the world's leading provider of unified collaborative communications solutions, has unveiled two new cost-effective solutions designed to deliver the ultimate communications experience to end users on their personal computers. The first is the Polycom PVX(tm) video conferencing software application that extends Polycom's premier voice and video experience to personal computers and web-cameras. Polycom PVX delivers Polycom's unrivalled Siren 14(tm) (14 kHz) audio and sharp H.264 video quality showing natural motion at a consistent 30 frames per second.

The second solution, Polycom WebOffice(tm) 7.0, is the first integrated solution to be released following Polycom's recent strategic alliance announcement last month with Microsoft® Corporation. Polycom WebOffice 7.0 integrates with Microsoft Windows® Messenger®, bringing users simple point-and-click access to business quality multipoint conferencing and collaboration.

"With both the Polycom PVX software application and WebOffice 7.0 conferencing portal, Polycom is extending secure rich media communications to the desktop," said Jean-Francois Poulain, vice president and managing director, Polycom Asia Pacific. "Polycom PVX delivers the highest quality voice and video conferencing, even over low bandwidth, and is easy to deploy, manage and use on the network. In addition, WebOffice now integrates with Microsoft Windows Messenger enterprise instant messaging application, enabling Polycom phones and video systems to connect to Windows® XP desktops."

The Polycom PVX Advantage
Polycom PVX delivers the industry's most powerful and robust conferencing capabilities for personal users via their PCs and web cams. The premium quality experience normally associated only with high quality group video conferencing systems is now available at the desktop.

Polycom PVX offers rich media collaboration with Polycom People+Content(tm) for simultaneous sharing of high quality video and high-resolution graphics; standard-based AES encryption for secure sharing of voice, video and content; H.264 video compression for sharp, clear images even over lower bandwidths; 30 frames-per-second support for natural, smooth motion; and near CD-quality Siren 14 kHz voice clarity.

ViewOnly mode allows users without web cams or in low bandwidth situations to elect to see others on a video call and concurrently send and receive voice and data even when they are not connected themselves by video. ViewOnly is useful for people working from home or remotely and facing low network uplinks, or for students who may need to see the professor and share content but do not need to send video.

Polycom PVX enables video collaboration with any standard-based video conferencing systems in offices or conference rooms with remote applications. Polycom PVX users can tailor the size and layout of viewing windows to position near-side video, far-side video and content anywhere on their desktop and/or across multiple monitors.

Polycom PVX also supports video telephony features such as call forwarding and call transfer allowing end users to forward incoming calls to their desktop systems or to other devices such as cell phones. When working in conjunction with the Polycom MGC(tm) voice and video bridge and Polycom PathNavigator(tm) gatekeeper, Polycom PVX software can initiate multipoint calls across mixed network environments.

Polycom WebOffice 7.0: Desktop Portal Access to Enterprise Conferencing and Collaboration

For those who wish to incorporate their desktop conferencing solutions into an enterprise conferencing portal, Polycom delivers a new version of WebOffice for initiating on-demand or reserved conference and collaboration sessions involving instant messaging, voice, video and data in any combination. WebOffice 7.0, a premise-based desktop application, has an easy to use point-and-click user interface complete with enterprise buddy list, instant messaging, application sharing, chat and whiteboard collaboration.

Beginning with version 7.0, the WebOffice conferencing portal can be configured to integrate with Microsoft Windows Messenger client, in conjunction with the Microsoft® Office Live Communications Server 2003 enterprise application. As more and more companies begin standardizing on enterprise Instant Message (IM) solutions, this type of integration creates an ideal desktop environment through which users can quickly and easily access Polycom's high-quality audio and video conferencing technologies and systems.

The integration allows Microsoft Windows Messenger users to easily transition from an IM session to a multipoint audio or video conference with any Polycom phone or video system using a simple point-and-click meeting invite -- providing them a true "on-demand" conferencing environment.

The new WebOffice version includes a downloadable video plug-in that now supports web cams and Polycom VSX(tm) and ViewStation® video conferencing room systems, in addition to the ViaVideo(tm) desktop systems. Version 7.0 delivers multiple language support for French, German, Japanese, Korean, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, allowing internationally disparate businesses and workgroups to collaborate easily and effectively.

For users without a camera, the video plug-in also supports a view-only mode, enabling participation in video calls where the user can view and speak with other video-enabled participants even though they cannot send video of themselves.

Polycom PVX is available at time of announcement from the Polycom channel or the Polycom Web Store at Polycom WebOffice 7.0 will be available in Q4 2004 through the Polycom channel.
