Networking vendor SMC Networks has announced a bid to strengthen its presence and channel in Australia, aiming to become one of the top three suppliers of networking hardware and software products within two years.
David Myers, SMC Networks' general manager for Australia, said the vendor has had a presence here for eight years, but wanted to increase its impact. The move is a response to local demand for its network interface cards, hubs, routers and switches.
The networking specialist will focuss mostly on the workgroup market, with products such as switches and hubs sold using a channel-centric model.
SMC Networks is also planning to introduce some channel programs, which should be in place by Q2. Myers said these would probably involve some sort of rebate program, and training to ensure resellers were up to speed on the products.
Currently SMC Networks' largest distributor is QSoft, but it is looking to announce one or two more strategic partners in the coming months.
