Compaq upped the ante for storage-area network (SAN) compatibility among competing vendors with its Open SAN strategy announced yesterday.
As part of its launch, the company will roll out products with HighGround Systems, a provider of storage resource management software, next month and April. Compaq and Massachusetts-based HighGround entered into a partnership agreement in December. The products will support other vendors' storage offerings. According to Mark Lewis, vice president of Compaq's enterprise storage software, products for open SAN environments will launch in the middle of next year.
In addition, Compaq is putting four products -- Data Replicator Manager, Enterprise Volume Manager, Virtual Replicator and Secure Path for Windows -- under the new SANworks line.
The company, in conjunction with the Storage Networking Industry Association, has begun construction on its Storage Networking Technology Center. Lewis expects the centre to be completed by the end of the quarter.
