VisiBroker 3.3 for Delphi from Inprise

Development tools vendor Inrpise has announced its plans to open-source the new version of its cross-platfrom SQL database InterBase 6. According to a company statement, Inprise plans to publish the source code for InterBase 6 in the first part of 2000.

InterBase, originally designed for business-critical, mobile computing and Internet-based applications on Linux, Windows NT, Solaris and Unix, will nevertheless be sold and supported through distribution channels as before.

The company said the opening of the source code to the database should boost the sales of its development tools and application server, while at the same time propelling the company to the `forefront of the Linux database market'.

InterBase source code will be published on www.borland.com.

Meanwhile, Inprise has released the new version of VisiBroker 3.3 for Delphi allowing developers to `quickly create and deploy distributed applications in computing environments including Windows and Linux', while providing them with `a complete CORBA environment for Delphi'.
