Kaz scores managed services deal

The Kaz Group has scored a multimillion dollar contract to provide a managed services solution to South Australia's electricity giant, ElectraNet.

Under the new deal, which began this month, the services company will be responsible for managing and maintaining the organisation's entire IT infrastructure.

While details about ElectraNet's previous IT providers have not been disclosed, Kaz general manager for marketing and communications, Kevin Ryder, said the deal would see it replace three separate providers as part of a single services contract.

Services to be provided include help desk, application development, LAN, desktop and technical workstation support, overall maintenance, Microsoft Server platform management and firewall services.

As part of the transition phase, the services company had already introduced new service desk and monitoring tools, Ryder said.

ElectraNet information services manager, Mike Walters, said Kaz was selected for its depth and breadth of services, ranging from business consulting and education capabilities, through to applications development.

"Due to ElectraNet's critical role in the electricity industry, our company required guaranteed high availability and reliable IT support that can scale quickly to reflect changing market demands. Kaz was able to meet this requirement by presenting an innovative approach to IT service delivery across ElectraNet's infrastructure and information systems," he said.

Kaz has also put in tenders to provide various services to the South Australian government, as part of its new selective outsourcing model.

These had previously been maintained by EDS under a single contract.

Ryder said the new ElectraNet deal would hold the services company in good stead for the SA government contracts.

"This is why the [ElectraNet] win is important for us - it's proven our capabilities," he said.
