Polycom’s MGC unified conferencing platform now completes industry first end-to-end SIP portfolio, enabling customers to deploy integrated rich media conferencing applications over converged communications infrastructure

Sydney, Australia - 20th October, 2004 - Polycom®, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLCM), the world’s leading provider of unified collaborative communications solutions, has announced the latest version of its industry leading MGC™ unified conferencing platform that enables companies to deploy converged, rich media applications seamlessly over any conferencing network type. Polycom MGC is the only solution that supports multiple, concurrent conferencing applications on a single platform, including both reserved and on-demand conferencing and collaboration sessions.

Polycom’s announcement of the SIP multimedia bridge joins the company’s recently announced SIP version of the Polycom VSX™ video platform and SIP phones, creating the industry’s first end-to-end -- endpoints to infrastructure -- portfolio for the emerging converged communication industry standard.

Polycom customers can now support any mix of ISDN, H.323 or SIP-based applications in the same conference, leveraging their existing communications infrastructure and introducing new, advanced IP-based services built around their own business strategies. The ability to collaborate and communicate in real-time, with new services such as IM and presence, is now completely integrated with existing rich media services such as voice, video and web conferencing.

Polycom provides the only architecture that can connect voice, video and web conferencing applications, telephony applications and instant messaging with presence into a single user experience. This allows customers to bridge both their old and new conferencing environments with a single solution, and enables users to easily communicate from anywhere at anytime from any medium.

“The Polycom MGC platform sits at the core of the world’s most advanced conferencing and collaboration networks, and plays a unique and central role in the trend toward combining rich media conferencing, telephony and presence into a single user experience,” said Jean-Francois Poulain, managing director and vice president, Polycom Asia Pacific.

“The Polycom MGC is a core element in our co-development and integration work with technology partners, including Microsoft, in delivering next-generation collaborative communications applications. The unrivalled rich media support, transcoding capabilities, and scalability of the MGC line, make the Polycom MGC the rich media bridge of choice for seamless networks delivering unified collaborative communications,” added Poulain.

End-to-End SIP for Converged Communications
SIP support on the MGC unified conferencing platform enables interoperability of Polycom conferencing and collaboration systems with Polycom’s communication and messaging infrastructure partners, such as Microsoft. Polycom and Microsoft recently announced a strategic alliance to deliver business-quality, rich media collaboration solutions across communication devices, applications and services that will empower customers to connect and share information in real-time regardless of location or type of call.

Interoperability between the Polycom MGC and Microsoft® Office Live Communications Server offers customers an integrated SIP-based infrastructure solution for ad-hoc rich media collaboration with presence between Polycom voice, video and web endpoints and applications and Windows® Messenger portals.

“SIP Interoperability between Polycom MGC and Microsoft Office Live Communications Server will enable business users to leverage their investments in Polycom’s conferencing solutions and Microsoft’s real-time collaboration solutions to easily launch high-quality voice, video and Web-conferencing calls,” said Taylor Collyer, senior director of Real-Time Collaboration Product Marketing at Microsoft.

MGC version 7 software will be available worldwide in October and is an included upgrade for customers with maintenance agreements.
