Perth-based ISP and telecommunications company Global Company has announced it is in the final stages of negotiations to establish a joint venture with Shanghai Telecom, a subsidiary of China Telecom.
Under terms of the deal Global Company subsidiary Global Dial will spend about $1 million to become one of the first IP networks in China.
Formed in August 1999, Global Dial uses voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) technology, allowing voice conversations to be held over the Internet, in order to undercut current international and national long distance telephony ratesAccording to company sources Global Dial hopes to add to its 20,000 strong Western Australian customer base by signing up a further 80,000 subscribers in Sydney and Melbourne.
Company sources confirm plans to run a multilingual VoIP call centre in Perth to service the company's growing international market.
The driving force behind Global Dial is Patrick Ng, managing director and founder of the Global Company, started in 1993.
