Virtuous shopping

You can shop online and feel virtuous at the same time, and it won't cost you a cent extra. That's the message from free2give.com.au, which was recently launched in Sydney. Visit the free2give online shopping mall, and on one side you'll find a list of leading Australian charities. Choose one you'd like to support, then go to lists of well-known e-tailers, follow the links and start spending. Every time you make a purchase, the retailer pays free2give a referral fee, which is split 50-50 with the charity of your choice. Depending on the retailer, the charity will receive up to 5 per cent of the purchase price. Shoppers can click a link to see a particular retailer's rate of contribution.

Web reach a new record

For the first time, according to the Media Metrix Audience Ratings Report for April, a non-US digital media property has achieved an audience "reach" of over 70 per cent. The report places ninemsn, a Web portal launched by Microsoft and Publishing and Broadcasting Ltd, in the top position with an audience reach of 70.5 per cent, ahead of second placed AOL, with an audience reach of 54.7 per cent. Another first for the April Audience Ratings Report is the debut of AFL.com.au at number 22. This is the first time a specialist sports site has achieved Top 25 status.

Traffic successwotch.com's promotional e-mail campaign for its advertiser ClubMom.com attracted 60,000 new subscriptions to the ClubMom site in two weeks, and generated more than 350,000 unique visitors to the site. wotch.com has produced similar results for other Internet sites, such as Iwin.com and dealtime.com. wotch.com's incubator company, Indigo Interactive, is thrilled with the result from the promotion. Indigo Interactive managing director Derek O'Neil said wotch.com was providing a valuable incubation investment for Indigo and it was excited about the progress it was making.

Strategic alliance

A strategic alliance has been set up between Web navigation service SpotOn and investment information site InvestorWeb.com.au. The alliance will see SpotOn supply its Web navigation software via a free downloadable link on Investor's site. This software works with a user's existing browser to enhance Web navigation. SpotOn manager of business development for the Asia-Pacific region, Phillip Relf, said the alliance with InvestorWeb was the first in a series of strategic partnerships with high-volume Web sites.
