Compaq opens its storage strategy to all budgets

Compaq Australia has launched its open SANS strategy with a range of data storage and hardware management products offering scalability, flexibility and embedded protection for e-business.

The storage infrastructure can be purchased at a "build-as-you-grow" pace, allowing businesses of all sizes to customise storage solutions to individual budgets.

"By implementing the open storage area network (SAN) solutions, customers now have the capability to move their organisation to the next level without compromising their existing infrastructure," said Stephen Bovis, manager, enterprise products group, Compaq Australia.

"SANS are hot in the market today," said Mark Nielson, marketing manager, server storage. The strategy demonstrates Compaq's "vision" to deploy data storage with "virtualisation" through fibre channel technology." Fibre Channel architecture takes storage traffic across the LAN, allowing greater bandwidth for customers, according to Nielson.

Local enterprise customers from the telecommunications, banking and finance sectors are lining up to buy Compaq's open SANS range, although Compaq declined to name its top clients.

Nor would it name any reseller partners earmarked under the open SANS strategy.

Compaq released the product set to prove it was a "truly multi-vendor company", Nielson said. The products are compatible with Sun Solaris, HP, IBM and Windows-reliant platforms, he said.

Compaq's new SANS range includes hardware management products and applications such as Enterprise Network Storage Manager, Open SAN Manager, SANworks Management Appliance, SANworks Resource Monitor, SANworks Storage Allocation Reporter, StorageWorks Modular Array 8000 and Enterprise Modular Array 12000.
