Hewlett-Packard and Softbank E-Commerce announced plans Thursday to jointly launch an online electronic goods store for consumers in Japan.
The new company, which does not have a name yet, will be a joint venture between the two companies, they said in a statement. It will operate an online store that will sell HP's line of computers and peripherals including printers, digital imaging equipment and handheld computers.
In establishing the Web site, HP will provide the hardware and software needed to create the service, while Softbank E-Commerce will be charged with developing the service and managing it once its virtual doors swing open. The online store is expected to launch in the third quarter of this year to catch the end-of-year selling season, HP and Softbank E-Commerce said.
