IBM to assist ISVs to become ASPs

Hot on the heels of Unisys's application service provider (ASP) announcement on Tuesday, IBM has announced its own ASP program for software developers.

While Unisys will provide hosting facilities for independent software vendors (ISVs) wishing to market as ASPs, IBM is offering the Service Provider Ready Program, to assist ISVs and developers get their software ASP-ready.

IBM's program runs in five stages: the education phase, the assessment phase, the technical phase, the hosting phase and the launch phase.

IBM does not plan to host the software, but will work with the program partners either to find an appropriate hosting partner or to help the ISV set up its own hosting facilities.

Cincom Systems and are two of the first organisations to sign onto the program.
