3Com announces the opening of its research and development centre in Hyderabad

<p>State of the Art Facility to Focus on R&amp;D for Leading Technologies, Including VoIP, Wireless, Switching and Network Management</p>
<p>SYDNEY, Australia – 22 October, 2004 – 3Com Corporation (Nasdaq: COMS) today announced the opening of its India research and development centre (IDC) in Hyderabad, which is set up through a strategic partnership with Mars Telecom. The new research and development centre will be headed by Mr. Mohan Sayani, director, IDC, 3Com.</p>
<p>The IDC will be a centre of excellence in software development for 3Com’s line of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) products and will support future growth into wireless, switching and network management. By expanding its R&amp;D initiatives into India, 3Com seeks to ensure that its customers have access to high-quality products and resources no matter where they are located.</p>
<p>Formally inaugurating the new facility, Mr. Rich Boule, senior director, voice engineering at 3Com, said, “Setting up this R&amp;D centre in India is a strategic decision and complements 3Com’s global technology development effort. Today, India has a strong infrastructure support, a favourable employment environment and, above all, a rich pool of highly-trained telecom software professionals.”</p>
<p>Commenting on the new R&amp;D centre, Mr. Mohan Sayani said, “This is a significant moment for us today. We have a team of 35 engineers who are working on VoIP technology together with our global R&amp;D teams based in Chicago and Marlborough, US, and significantly contributing to 3Com’s product road map. We continue to look for the right talent and aim to grow to 80 staff members in the next 12 months. We appreciate the support from our partner, Mars Telecom, in setting up the IDC in the shortest possible time. 3Com and Mars’ resources will collaborate very closely in delivering industry leading networking products for local and global markets.”</p>
