New Voodoo for 3dfx
After months of anticipation, 3dfx has released its Voodoo5 graphics accelerator locally.
3dfx Interactive's answer to the GeForce2, the Voodoo 5 5500 AGP card, is now available nationally after a successful pre-order campaign.
Designed specifically for the gaming market, the company claims its graphics board is the first to offer application-independent, 3D API - compatible anti-aliasing. The card also utilises two VSA-100 graphics processing chips as well as 3dfx's T-Buffer digital effects engine.
The cards are currently available via distributors Innovision Technology and Chips.www.3dfx.comXircom ships PortGear Xircom has announced its PortGear USB product line for Mac and PC is available locally, allowing users to connect peripheral devices to Windows and Mac-based computers through a single USB interface.
The product line, which will be geared towards SOHO and home PC users, includes hubs, multifunction hubs, port converters, networking adapter cables and USB upgrade kits. The USB port expansion products will enable users to connect peripherals without having to reboot the system.
Xircom will incorporate DSL, HPNA and wireless technologies into the line towards the end of this year.www.xircom.comFujitsu Siemens signs on as M2 drives OEMNetwork backup company Exabyte has announced Fujitsu Siemens will use Mammoth-2 (M2) Tape drives and libraries for its Intel-based Primergy servers, the Solaris/Sparc-based Primepower platform and the Reliant UNIX-based RM server line.
"We have worked with Exabyte for more than 10 years and were an early adopter of MammothTape technology," said Dr Helmut Beck, executive director storage at Fujitsu Siemens Computers.
