Servex serves up OnStream

Servex, a peripherals distribution arm of Acer, has struck up an exclusive distribution agreement with digital storage manufacturer OnStream.

Offering worldwide and volume distribution, Servex business manager Niall Moore is looking to offload up to 500 tape drive units per month, but is happy with "doubling" sales since Servex took over the distribution recently.

Designed for the corporate market, Moore claims Servex has had recent "special case" success in the retail sector, but is looking to "piggy back" Acer into the corporate sector. Moore also hopes to pick up a few corporate resellers.

Media Tech sends out ATO CDs

Digital and media distributor Media Technology has answered the ATO's call to send out over 1.4 million copies of the Tax Office's E-Record and E-Commerce CD-ROMs.

Designed to assist businesses with the implementation of the new tax system, the record keeping tool and e-commerce tool (both CD-ROMs) had to be duplicated, bundled and distributed within tight time-frames.

Although it would have been cheaper to place the software on the Internet for a free download, the ATO did not want to exclude businesses without a reliable Internet connection. The deal is estimated to be worth in excess of $1.4 million.

Hewlett Packard, Yahoo! launch enterprise portalsHewlett-Packard last week announced the availability of software and consulting assistance for the Corporate Yahoo! electronic services portal that allows companies to develop a home page with internal and external content.

HP, acting as a reseller for Yahoo!, will package Corporate Yahoo with other e-service applications for large Fortune 2000-size companies into a product called HP E-services Portal.

The HP E-services Portal assists companies in providing their employees with targeted Internet, intranet and extranet content via the My Yahoo interface.

HP will market the software, which is an extension of the agreement it announced with Yahoo in August of last year. HP is expected to make the product available by the end of July on a per-user licence fee and subscription basis.

HP has several e-service partners in the venture, which will provide integration services and Autonomy, which will offer its Portal-in-a-Box suite of products.

Yahoo! introduced Corporate Yahoo in late June.
