Microsoft is splurging on a special promotion for the launch of Windows Me, offering lucrative value add opportunities for resellers.
The discount applies to Windows 98 and Windows 98 Special Edition users and will see the original price of $206 slashed to $109. Windows Me is the first consumer specific version of Windows and boasts enhancements in the areas of PC health, digital media, online experience and home networking.
According to Microsoft product and marketing manager for Windows Paul Roworth, these extra features enable resellers to "increase their sales of non-traditional PC items such as video cameras and digital attachments. The product is a great incentive to get people in the store, he said. "Once they're in ...then sell away." While the lowered price will take a bite out of resellers margins, Roworth said this will be compensated by increased sales.
