Laptop Land opens first Adelaide store

The Mercury Group has moved its retail arm into the South Australian market, opening its first Laptop Land store in Adelaide. The store, which opened last week, will provide professionals and executives with mobile computing solutions without having to deal with the mass computing found in big retail outlets.

"This store is definitely not a mass retail store," said Mercury IT's South Australian general manager, Craig Cox. "It is not a huge store, but we specialise in notebooks, so customers can come into an environment where they do not have to fight kids to get the service they want."The Mercury Group has been building its South Australian presence since the company acquired a majority shareholding in one of the state's largest resellers, Lodin Computer.

The store is located in the city centre, but not right in the centre of the CBD. "The South Australian market is made up of either high-quantity professional Government companies or mass-market stores such as Harvey Norman and clone stores," Cox explained. "So the store is definitely something which is needed here. It has a very professional look, where people who need portability and value-add solutions can walk in and get quality service."Cox said response had been phenomenal in the short time the store had been open. "The walk-in traffic has been astounding," he said.

More than three quarters of Laptop Land's business lies in the corporate section, where the company provides services such as sales-force automation and remote connectivity. Laptop Land also has stores in North Sydney in NSW and in Milton, Queensland.
