Ericsson Australia opens new global IP Centre

Ericsson Australia has invested $4 million in a new global IP Centre which opened yesterday in Melbourne.

Employing 30 staff, Ericsson will continue to make significant investments of around $5 million per year and to double the headcount.

The IP Centre will implement and support mobile, fixed and broadband solutions for Ericsson globally working alongside a second centre in Sweden.

Ericsson Australia services director, Mark Williams, said the centre would provide 24x7 global back-office support for the company's entire IP product portfolio.

"Ericsson Australia was chosen to host the global IP services centre ahead of other competing Ericsson technical offices around the world," Williams said. "We won the facility as a result of our region's leading technical expertise in services and proven innovation across each of the three product sectors - mobile, fixed and broadband," he said.

"Moving forward we expect that the number of products and solutions with IP integrated technology will grow. As a result we will be ready to grow the Australian IP centre - when it becomes necessary."

Ericsson Australia's services business currently employs about 1000 staff providing network design, project management, multi-vendor integration and network management to operators both globally and locally.
