Last week, Finance Minister John Fahey was accused of deliberately announcing the Government IT outsourcing review during the running of the Melbourne Cup, the race that stops a nation. Evidently he was hoping journalists wouldn't be around to roast him about the move, which is somewhat of an admission of the Whole of IT Outsourcing Scheme's failure.
If it ws a strategy, it didn't work. The story was still run on just about every IT publication in the country. One can't help but ponder, if Fahey wanted to release some information that journalists would ignore, why didn't he hire a PR company to write a press release?
