- New Product Simplifies Access, Increases the Security of Information Assets and Cuts Help Desk Costs for the On-Demand Enterprise -

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – 25 September, 2003 – Citrix Systems, Inc., the global leader in access infrastructure solutions, today announced the general availability of Citrix® MetaFrame® Password Manager, rounding out the complete Citrix MetaFrame Access Suite that the company first announced in March 2003. The new access infrastructure product is the most efficient single sign-on (SSO) and password security solution for accessing password-protected applications. Developed to meet customer demand, Citrix MetaFrame Password Manager provides secure, easy, instant single sign-on access from anywhere, at anytime, using any device, over any network connection, to Windows®, Web, proprietary and host-based applications running in the MetaFrame Access Suite environment or on a variety of desktop clients. This enables businesses to simplify secure access to the on-demand enterprise, improving worker productivity, increasing network security and reducing help desk costs.

According to Gartner, identity and access management are among the top five security concerns for enterprise organisations today.[1] This increased focus on security, combined with the growing complexity of IT organisations, has led to ineffective password management and excessive help desk costs. Today, the average employee accesses a minimum of 20 password-protected applications in the course of his or her job function. Gartner reports that password-related problems account for nearly 25 percent of help desk calls and they estimate that if users reduced their passwords from five to one, calls to the help desk would decrease 80 to 85 percent.[2]

“We've standardised our enterprise on Citrix access infrastructure - due in large part to the company's demonstrated commitment to the success of its customers," said David Valcik, vice president of technical services for Beverly Enterprises. "As the nation's leading provider of healthcare services to the elderly, we're tasked with streamlining IT costs and addressing government regulations while delivering the highest level of care and service to patients and their families. Citrix is working with us to develop a personalised single-sign on component that delivers the 'office anywhere' to our caregivers while helping address HIPAA privacy and security requirements and workflow convenience. We are deploying Citrix MetaFrame Password Manager to offer superior password-security technology in the manner we've come to expect from Citrix - cost-effective, manageable and seamless to the user."

Citrix MetaFrame Password Manager sets a new industry standard for password security and single sign-on access. Unlike other password security and SSO products, Citrix MetaFrame Password Manager does not require complex scripting or application-level integration in order to support a full range of applications. Users authenticate once with a single password, and Citrix MetaFrame Password Manager does the rest: automatically logging users into any password-protected information system, enforcing password policies, monitoring all password-related events, and even automating end-user tasks, including password changes. Citrix MetaFrame Password Manager also helps eliminate the administrative burdens and implementation costs associated with other password security and SSO products, which require IT organisations to install the solution on each individual client device. Since Citrix MetaFrame Password Manager is built for the Citrix MetaFrame Access Suite environment, it can be installed on a central server and deployed instantly to each user. Alternatively, the product can also be installed directly on individual desktops.

Citrix MetaFrame Password Manager is designed to work seamlessly with the other products of the Citrix MetaFrame Access Suite, including:
- Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server: Citrix MetaFrame Password Manager provides single sign-on access to any number of password-protected applications deployed via Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server.
- Citrix MetaFrame Secure Access Manager: End users authenticate once and Citrix MetaFrame Password Manager passes through these credentials to any information and application resources available in the secure, personalised computing environment delivered through Citrix MetaFrame Secure Access Manager.
- Citrix MetaFrame Conferencing Manager: Through single sign-on access with Citrix MetaFrame Password Manager, end users can collaborate on multiple password-protected applications via Citrix MetaFrame Conferencing Manager.

“Understandably, there is a heightened focus on security, and organisations worldwide are urgently strengthening their security policies and technical defenses. At the same time, the challenge is steep because password management continues to increase in complexity as information systems proliferate, driving help desk costs into the stratosphere,” said Bob Kruger, senior vice president and chief technology officer for Citrix. “Add to these factors the growing number of users accessing those systems, the number of access devices they use, and their increasing mobility, and the burning need for a password security solution becomes apparent. Citrix MetaFrame Password Manager gives our customers a way to manage this complexity, to substantially reduce costs, to increase network security, and greatly simplify information access for workers.”
