Hardware storage vendor Maxtor is hoping to forge stronger links with its resellers by broadening its distribution model and forming strategic alliances with Australian systems integrators.
Craig Davis, who was appointed Maxtor's national sales manager, Australia/New Zealand, last week, said the vendor was looking for an additional national distributor for its Network Attached Storage (NAS) products.
According to Davis, Maxtor is in discussion with distributors and hopes to make an announcement within the next month. Currently, eDataGroup distributes its NAS products in Australia, which Maxtor inherited through its acquisition of Creative Design Solutions (CDS) last year. The search for an additional distributor is part of Maxtor's drive to fully launch the NAS products into the Australian marketplace.
"What we basically want to do is formulate closer relationships with the resellers," Davis said. "To get back to our grassroots, understand their [the reseller's] business . . . we want to tackle our competition on service, commitment, performance and reliability - not just price."
Maxtor's other product area, hard drives, are distributed in Australia by Tech Pacific and Melbourne-based BBF Components and Peripherals. In the hard-drive market, Davis said the vendor was working with these distributors to set up programs and alliances with major systems integrators in Australia.
