FlowCom wires Govt deal
Telecommunications services company FlowCom has announced its selection as one of the NSW Government suppliers for its phone and data needs; a business worth an estimated $150 million.
Flow Communications, a carriage service provider and wholly owned subsidiary of FlowCom, will use Ericsson ANS switches to provide government agencies with high-capacity switched services including voice over IP and international calls.
FlowCom recently listed on the ASX at an issue price of 50 cents. It is an amalgamation of three business units including Flow Communications, a carrier called Macrocom and an applications provider joint venture Transaction Network Services Australia.
Foundry's BigIron 4000 nets industry awardNetwork switching and router company Foundry Networks has socked it to its switching counterparts, walking away with US Network World's "World Class Award".
The award is based on the Applied Research Institute's performance and features set guidelines, and Foundry's BigIron 4000 performed above the crowd in terms of latency, packet loss and management.
Delivering up to 178 million packets per second, Foundry's BigIron 4000 is also OEMed by HP.
Cisco teams with Asian integrator
Cisco Systems has announced a partnership with Hong Kong-based Datacraft Asia, a major systems integrator of data networks for Asian telecommunications and Internet service providers. The deal, under which Cisco will be Datacraft's preferred Internet access equipment supplier, will leverage the data-network firm into the Asian carrier market, analysts said.
SDSL, wireless combined
Nokia has unveiled a network gateway that combines Symmetrical DSL (SDSL) and wireless LAN technology in one product. Targeted at small and midsize companies and remote professionals working in home offices, the Nokia MW1642 can be used as a bridge or a router, depending on the network model used, Nokia officials said in a statement.
It provides a high-speed, always-on network connection supporting data throughput of as much as 2.3Mbps, enabling users to send and receive data simultaneously. For the local network, both 10Base-T Ethernet and wireless LAN interfaces are supported. Pricing and shipment information were not available.
