SCO dumps staff

Unix developer Santa Cruz Operation (SCO) has announced the laying off of 19 per cent of its staff (approximately 190 workers) as it prepares to sell its server and professional services divisions to Caldera.

SCO's revenue for the third quarter of this year was $US27 million, as opposed to last year's figure of $57.2 million. The existing business that will remain after Caldera makes the acquisition will be renamed from SCO to Tarantella.

Initial indications from the Australia/New Zealand office of SCO suggest that local staff will be spared the cuts.
